about the group (nt)copyright

The National Trust is responsible for many acres of land in the local area, and relies on volunteer groups to help them maintain it. You will be surprised at just how much a group of fifteen to twenty enthusiastic volunteers can achieve in one day under the guidance of an NT warden. And have fun!

What kind of work do we do?

The work we do varies according to the property and time of year, but has included river bank repairs, fencing, the building of a duck nesting platform (don’t ask!) along with a good deal of clearance work and tree planting.

Where do we work?

National Trust-owned land and properties such as Cliveden, Hughenden Manor, Waddesdon Manor, Bradenham, Pulpit Hill and Winter Hill to name but a few.

When do we meet?

We meet approximately every third Sunday at 10:15 and work through to around 16:30. See task programme for dates.

Is it all work?

Of course not!

We organise social events such as theatre and cinema evenings, wine-tasting, tenpin bowling and weekends away.

What's in it for me?

Aching limbs, scratched arms, new friends and an enormous sense of satisfaction as you return to work on Monday ! And in return for all your hard graft, if you clock up 50 hours or more during the calendar year, the Trust will reward you with a complementary pass that entitles you to free entry to NT properties.

And the group is free to join !

What do I need to bring along?

We provide your morning coffee, but you should bring a packed lunch (sometimes we're close enough to go to the pub - check with the task leader).

Given the type of work we do, it is advisable to wear older clothing and ideally walking boots or wellies. You will also find a pair of gardening gloves invaluable.

Health and Safety

Any tools needed are provided by the group, as are training and supervision where necessary, and we take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of our members.

The Trust advises all volunteers to be vaccinated against Tetanus, and anyone under sixteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
